Corbin’s Saloon

Local businessman, Henry Corbin, opened a saloon at the corner of Knox and Main Streets in 1875, and the townspeople protested vehemently.

Leaders of the community used strong language in denouncing Corbin and a series of acts of vandalism followed eventually culminating in dynamite explosions.

Corbin closed this establishment and tried again in 1879 with similar reactions and results.
